Unable to install Project 2016 with Office 2013 suite

I have an environment that is on Office 2013, and i'm setting up a new laptop (with office 2013 installed) but also need to download Project through my Office 365 subscription, we sub to Project only. Project has updated to 2016 and upon install it requires me to remove the only copy of Office we own, 2013.

How do I install along side 2013 or install Project 2013?

Project Server 2010 - Auto alert and reminder doesn't work

$

We are using Project Server 2010 to manage projects. We have configured SMTP server and enabled reminders.

Currently, the problem is that if someone modified the project details or updated the tasks, users can receive email alerts, but the task due email doesn't work, users can never receive emails before the tasks start.

We have checked server settings, it should be fine, we also enabled auto email alerts for resources, but they don't receive any emails. Could you please advise what we should check to find the root cause? such as logs, events?

We referred to the following to enable alerts and reminders:

Alerts and Reminders (Project Server 2010 settings)
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg982969%28v=office.14%29.aspx

Some points need to mention:

1. I am using the top level administrator to test, so the permission should not be the problem.

2. SMTP setting should be fine, as the project update emails can be sent. Or it just uses another setting to do this, as there are two places to set the SMTP server, one is under Alerts and Reminders, another is under server settings\outcome email setting.

Thanks for your time.

Thanks

CSOM - Programmatically update task custom fields

$

Hello forum members,

I'm writing a client application which purpose is:

1. create a project on a 2013 pwa --> this function works with no issues

2. add tasks to the project --> this function works with no issues

At this point I can navigate my PWA and open the project with Project Professional: I can see all tasks.

3. update some task custom fields based on a table --> this is driving me crazy.

I wrote the following function: it works without error, no exception is raised, but when I open the project all custom fields are empty.

In My queued Job page i find two failed entries:

I know I'm missing something, but I don't know what.

We have recently converted from SharePoint Permission mode to Project Permission mode for PS 2013.

Since the conversion we get PSPermissionSynchronizeProjectSite errors every time a new user is added or a project is published.

The error details are below.

Your PSPermissionSynchronizeProjectSite job failed. Its current state is FailedNotBlocking. It was 0% complete. It entered the queue at 05/27/2014 14:56:05.

To get more information about the job failure, please go to Project Web App. Select Personal Settings from the left menu. Then select My Queued Jobs.

The errors returned from the queue are as follows:
Error ID: 26000

Change in deleted assignments

$

Hi

I believe there has been a recent change in February 2015 CU for Project Server 2013.

When I deselect a resource in PWA from a task, until January CU (that was when  last checked it) the assignment still exists with its GUID in the database. Only the assigned resource of this assignment is change to a resource guid that does only exist in MSP_EPMResource table named "unassigned resource".

When I do this now with February CU, the assignment is deleted from the database.

Has anyone else observed this?

Thanks

Christoph

Task Re-Assignment Changes Work Hours

$

We are using Project Professional 2010 and Project Server 2010. The PM assigns a Fixed Work task to a generic resource. The task has more than one resource assigned to it.  The resources are spread out from many departments. When the department Resource Manager for one of the Generic Resources re-assigns their generic resource to a named resource the amount of work for ALL resources changes. This happens whether the task is started already or not. And, the amount of the work change seems to be inconsistent - sometimes it goes from 5 hours to 0.3 and other times to 89 from 5.  It is also inconsistent about which resources it changes - it is not an even spread across the recourses.  We are not using the "Department" feature.  The resources have the same calendars, same max units and the generic/named resources seem identical in all settings.

Opening a doc in read only mode does not update Last Connect for a resource

Hi ,

One of my users sent a link to another resource to have a look at a particular document in document library. It was observed that Opening a doc in read only mode does not update Last Connect for a resource on manage resources page.

Has someone tried that and is it by design?

Project Server \ Task List (Web) \ Read Only

As there is only one way of moving tasks: from pwa to sp list, native project site list is set to read only.

There is a yellow banner which indicates that in order to add\edit\delete tasks you need to use pwa or project professional. And it makes list read-only.

I relinked tasks to another list, but there is no read only banner. How can i turn it on?

Link Project Tasks to Another SharePoint Task List

Something happened and all of our projects relinked tasks to different task list.

I want to relink them back to right task lists (within project site) and resync its tasks.

How and where to relink task list?

How to launch resync tasks? Export from project db to SP Task Lists.

Missing "Project Fields" webpart mystery

$
0
0

This has to be the oddest thing I've ever encountered in years of Sharepoint administration, though I have less experience with Project Server administration.  Here goes.

We've upgraded from Project Server 2010 to Project Server 2013 and have started UAT.  Other than an issue with the BI Center upgrade which was resolved, the upgrade test reported no errors.  The problem is with our Project Detail Pages.

Any project detail pages that were using the "Project Fields" webpart are giving an error after the upgrade.  In the logs I found:
- "System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.Library, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' or one of its dependencies"
-  "Microsoft.Office.Project.PWA.WebParts.ProjectFieldPart, Error: File Not Found"

So first it appears these pages were not upgraded to use the new PWA library.  I wasn't able to find a way to properly upgrade the pages.  So, I began rebuilding them.

I built one new page in the Project Detail Pages library using the "Project Fields" webpart successfully.  When I went to build a second page, the webpart is completely gone (the "Project Fields (Backwards Compatible)" webpart remains but it is not the same):

Back in Project Server 2010, here's the webpart:

Thinking this is an issue with the upgraded PWA, I went to our other test 2013 PWA (that is native 2013 with no content and wasn't an upgrade from 2010), and the webpart is missing there too!

Then, I rebooted the farm because I was at a loss.  The webpart is still missing.  I was able to use it an hour ago, and the page I built with it still displays it, but I can't add it to any new pages (and tried Export and Upload with no success), and I'm stumped.  Has anyone experienced anything like this before?  Thank you for your insight.
