2012 Server & Samsung 850 EVO SSD

I don't know if anyone has run in to this or not.  I have a customer that brought in a computer that they built (Asus H87M-E Motherboard, Intel Core i7-4790, 32GB DDR3 1600Mhz, 1 x 250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD) and they were trying to install 2012 r2 Server on the system.  They could install the OS, update the drivers and do all of the windows updates, but when they tried to promote it as a domain controller, it would crash and then restart.  After it restarted, the USB keyboard & mouse didn't work.  It didn't matter which USB port you used, they would not work.  I tried it in safe mode and the keyboard and mouse worked there, but not in normal mode.  I tried bios update, different memory (Crucial branded) configurations, different CPUs and every time you try to promote it, it would crash.  I tried some "real" server hardware (Supermicro X10SLL-F, Intel Xeon 1230v3, 2 x 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz w/ecc) using the same SSD and it crashed again when trying to promote the server.  The only way I could fix it was to use a different brand SSD (Crucial BX100 250GB).  This SSD worked on the Asus motherboard and the Supermicro motherboard.  Has anyone else seen this?  Any ideas as to what could be causing the crashes?
